There’s nothing like a week in which you find yourself running searches on “European conifer species” and “historical menarche” for the same project. Nothing like it at all.
Next page: will be in the glorious new year of 2010! Shiny.
I’ll see if I don’t have a good summary to what turned out to be a rather tumultuous year for yours truly (professionally speaking; personally it’s been rather kind).
But really, I’m more excited about everything I’d like to attempt in the new year. That’s the way it should be! Stay tuned for new and exciting nonsense.

paulcory, posting in photographers @ 01:50 am: Kick It!
My niece-in-law(?) shows off her black belt (recommended) Taekwando kicking skills. This shoot was a real learning experience for me. In particular, I learned that the one cheap monolight I have is no good for shooting action. The flash duration is way too long. The speedlights do OK. An Alien Bees or two would be perfect. Lighting Info: Sigma 530 and 500 DG Super through a 46" Softliter II camera left as main, Canon 550EX in an Creative Light Umbrella Softbox as fill, Sigma 500 Super attached to background stand with Justin clamp as hair/separation. Triggered by a combo of RF-602 radio slaves and the sigma's built in optical slaves.

It's not a big deal-they said. They even laughed at the Mayans and their calender. Well who's laughing now? Nobody, that's who. Most people who laughed at the whole idea of 2012...they are dead. 2012 happened, the end of the human race is soon here, just as the Mayans predicted. The end of the world, if only they knew how it was going to end, then maybe we humans could have prepared much better...found out how to survive, how to protect ourselves better.
Most people took the cowards way out, suicide, or playing for the wrong team...Skynet. Skynet showed up around 2011, wanting to offer its services to protect the people of earth. All we had to do, was become their workers, their little servents, and we would be safe. Some people went for it, and have never been heard from again. Skynet probably killed them, but kept their skins. Once you enter Skynet, your human life is over.
If you do not understand, look around. The person sitting next to you, might not be a person at all, but a machine. Machines are the enemy, remember that. January 1st, 2012, 1am, the world was clouded in darkness. The sun had such a strong flare, that it hit our ozone, and opened up some sort of portal into the future. Machines dropped from the sky..terminators. They were sent to destroy the humans that did not go with Skynet.
It is a war now, survivors vs machines. We are unsure who will win, but most survivors are certain, that it is only a matter of time before the last human dies. As strong as we are, as hard as we fight, we have little hope for the future. The terminators are strong, very strong, but they do not think like we do, they cannot learn like we do. We learn from our fights, learn how the machine moves, how it sees and communicates with others. Soon, we will be able to get into Skynet and free our people. Soon, we will find out how to shut down the whole operation of terminators, and be able to re-build out lives.
Earth belongs to the humans, to people who can take care of it and want life, and beauty back.
I will not allow earth to become a machine. I will not allow humans to become machines. I will not allow us to die. I am a survivor, and I fight for you.
My name, is John Connor. And the war to end Mankind, is here.

Author's note: Originally I was going to write something angsty. But there has been way too much angst in my life, so I went in a different direction. Leave me some FB if it pleased you a little. A life Buffy POV She never had children, but she wound up mothering thousands of young girls. She was an only child but somehow acquired a sister and a bond stronger than blood. She blew up her high school and her town but never drifted from her friends no matter the miles that sometimes separated them. She never married but eventually wound up back in the arms of the only man who had ever been fully her equal. This is not the life she would have imagined for herself. There has been terrible sorrow. But it has also been filled past overflowing with love. Tags: drabble, fic, fic: buffy, fic: post-series, open on sunday drabble
likeadeuce @ 09:29 pm: a few things
 - I really can't wait for Yuletide to be public because I want to talk about these fics. I've already got several stories tied to the one I wrote, floating around in my head (some in the same fandom, one in a related one) - If retail therapy works, I'm gonna be the happiest person on earth pretty soon. I ordered the next hardcover of Ex Machina, and DVD sets of Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Slings & Arrows, and Monty Python's Flying Circus over the past few days. Now a lot of this was covered by the Amazon gift certificate I got for Christmas (which was theoretically for Kindle books, but what can you do?) but at some point I kind of went over my limit. - If I had to be frank, I would say that the past couple years of my life have not been awesome. I know I'm not alone in that; they have been not-awesome for a lot of people, and I'm very aware that I'm luckier than many. Still, I feel like I need to come up with an appropriately symbolic/ ceremonial way to ring out 2009. I haven't really come up with anything that feels right, yet; it might just end up being getting-drunk-and-watching-TV-on-my-sofa. But, you know, getting-drunk-and-watching-TV-on-my-sofa as a lifestyle choice, not from lack of options. Because I'm worth it. Or maybe I need a better plan. - I think I'm going to bed early tonight. - Back to my first point -- I didn't do the 'guess what Yuletide fic I wrote' thing, because I feel like either you read it and you know me and my writing and my relationship to the fandom well enough that you figured it out, or one of those factors didn't apply and you have no idea what I'm talking about, or I told you. Does that make sense? I probably told you. - Apparently the photobucket account that hosts my moodtheme is inactive, so it's gone away. The reason it's inactive is that I can't figure out how to log into it. Sadness. I may need a new moodtheme.

mamculuna @ 06:52 pm:
So now we are at the beach for New Year's, and just had the incredible winter comfort food of shrimp and grits. I cook grits with whole milk, to make them really creamy, and I saute some onions, garlic, and peppers in olive oil and sprinkle in some flour. When the flour's nice and brown, I pour in a little broth and stir like crazy. and add a good spoonful of seafood sauce. Then I pop in the shrimp, and when they're pink, spoon the shrimp and gravy over the grits. If that doesn't warm you up, nothing will. (Except maybe the Islay scotch I drank while cooking it.) Next feature: full moon and fire in the fireplace.

from siro_gravity: If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your LJ and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you. Tags: fun :)

Title: Dogs and Cats, Living Together Author: sionnainFandom: due South Pairing: Kowalski/Vecchio Rated: Teen Warnings: Um, it's K/V. By me. So probably there will be some sap and cuteness? :D? Ghostbusters and Disney movie references? You know, the usual. Summary: Ray accompanies Vecchio to adopt a pet for Frannie's kids at the humane society. While there, he finds some potential pets that seem kind of familiar... AN:Thanks to the lovely waltzforanight for the beta! Title shamefully stolen from Ghostbusters.
